How to Search Cases by Name
Indiana's statewide public search runs through Indiana MyCase. Pick the Name mode to find a person or a business. A last name is required before you can add first or middle-name filters. Set the court filter to Pike County. Then layer on a category, a status, or a filing-date range when a common name floods you with matches.
- Open MyCase and select the Name tab.
- Enter the last name. Add the first or middle name only when it improves the match.
- Choose Pike County and the likely Criminal & Citation, Civil, Family, or Probate category.
- Use Open, Closed, or All and a filing-date range to narrow a large set.
- Complete any CAPTCHA, open the likely result, and confirm the court, case number, type, and filing date.
The official MyCase search tips explain the live field rules.

Those rules matter. A valid search can still be too broad, and an invalid field combination returns a warning instead of cases.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last name | Text | Yes for person name | Needed before first or middle name filters. |
| First or middle name | Text | No | Use to narrow, not as a stand-alone person query. |
| Business name | Text | For business mode | Use the exact name or an allowed trailing wildcard. |
| Court | Selection | No | Choose Pike County for a local result set. |
| Category and status | Selection | No | Limit by case family and Open, Closed, or All. |
| File date | Date | No | Use mm/dd/yyyy; either endpoint can be used alone. |
Pike County MyCase Search Modes
MyCase gives you Case, Name, and Attorney modes. Pick the tab matching the identifier you hold. Case mode takes a case number, a citation number, or a cross-reference number. Use one field only. Name mode covers people and businesses. Attorney mode works from an attorney name or number. The Indiana MyCase help page spells out what public coverage includes. It also shows where online documents stop.

A party who completes the identity and access-code steps gets deeper access, but that does not widen the view for an anonymous member of the public. A public account is a separate thing. The Indiana Courts public-account workflow relies on contact details and email verification.

Registering may unlock account features. It does not lift the court-record exclusions that apply to any public Pike County case lookup.
How to Search by Case Number
For a Pike County court docket, the exact case number is the cleanest query. Pike Circuit Court uses county code 63 and Odyssey court identifier 63C01. A workable format is 63C01-YYMM-TT-NNNNN. The opening segment names the Pike court. YYMM gives the filing year and month. TT is the case-type code. The tail is the sequence number. Per the search help, hyphens and leading zeroes can be left out in some searches. In Case mode, enter the case number alone. Pairing it with a citation or cross-reference value will not work. Check every character. A zero easily passes for the letter O. An older paper or transferred matter may carry a different number. Search that cross-reference separately, or ask the Clerk to link it to the current court number.
- 63
- Indiana’s county code for Pike County.
- C01
- The court element for Pike Circuit Court in Odyssey.
- TT
- A case-type code, such as the code MyCase uses for a civil or criminal class.
- Cross-reference
- A linked citation, prosecutor, legacy, or related identifier that may lead to the same matter.
Note: Let MyCase's own case-type description tell you what the two-letter code means, rather than guessing.
Pike County Case Search Filters
Pike's local assignment rule makes the category filter worth using. Pike Circuit Court takes capital cases, felonies, misdemeanors, civil matters above the local-rule threshold, and probate. Its Small Claims, Juvenile and Family Law Division handles statutory small claims, infractions, ordinance violations, juvenile cases, and dissolution or legal-separation matters. So the division split helps you pick the right filter.
| MyCase category | Pike County examples | Search use |
|---|---|---|
| Criminal & Citation | Felony, misdemeanor, infraction, citation | Use for charges and local ordinance or traffic entries. |
| Civil | Civil plenary and small claims | Pair with court and filing date when names are common. |
| Family | Dissolution, separation, some juvenile-related routing | Expect access limits for protected matters. |
| Probate | Estate and probate proceedings | Search Pike Circuit Court and confirm older files with the Clerk. |
Pike County runs no separate city or town court in Petersburg, Winslow, or Spurgeon. Search Pike Circuit Court rather than inventing a municipal-court filter. A category narrows results, but it never decides whether a case is public.
What a Case Search Shows
A Pike County result opens with index facts. Digging in can reveal more layers: the case header, party and attorney connections, charges where relevant, the CCS event history, hearing sessions, cross-references, a financial panel, and linked documents. Not every case fills every field.
| Case number and court | The unique identifier and Pike Circuit Court assignment. |
|---|---|
| Category and type | The broad family and specific court classification. |
| Filed date and status | When the matter began and the portal’s current open or closed label. |
| Parties and counsel | Public connection labels and attorney information, subject to masking. |
| CCS events | Dated filings, notices, hearings, orders, service, and administrative entries. |
| Hearing sessions | Date, time, court, officer, result, and cancel or reschedule state. |
| Documents | Public files linked to some events; many events have no public download. |
| Financial data | Informational charges, credits, payments, and balance data that the Clerk must verify. |
A status label is not a disposition entry. A charge is an allegation, never a judgment. And a visible event does not prove its underlying image is open to the public.
Pike County Result Limit Fixes
MyCase caps any result set at 1,000. A Pike County name search that hits the ceiling needs narrowing, not endless paging. Select Pike County, add a category, choose Open or Closed, and constrain the filing date. Sort controls can then organize what's left by case number or filing date. Wildcards and sounds-like tools fix different problems. A permitted trailing wildcard must start with a letter or number. It cannot stand in for the whole field. You cannot combine sounds-like with a wildcard search. For a business, begin with the exact registered-style name. Then try a valid trailing wildcard when spelling or suffix wording might vary.
No result is not proof of no record. Recheck spelling, court, category, date, legacy number, and access limits. Then call the Pike Clerk with the facts already tried.
After you submit, a CAPTCHA may appear. That is an access control, not proof the query failed. Complete it, then refine the search if the set stays too broad.
County vs Statewide Case Search
For Pike state cases, MyCase serves as both the statewide portal and the practical county search layer, and selecting Pike County narrows the shared Odyssey environment. The Clerk's official file is the local authority behind that view. The county offers no separate Pike County docket database of its own.
| Channel | Coverage | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Indiana MyCase | Public cases from participating Indiana Odyssey courts | Search, filter, read the CCS, and find public linked documents. |
| Pike Circuit Court Clerk | The official Pike County court file | Older files, certified copies, current balances, and missing documents. |
| PACER | Federal district, bankruptcy, and appellate cases | Federal matters that cannot appear as state Pike Circuit Court cases. |
Need a paper or certified record? Contact the Clerk at 801 E Main St, PO Box 125, Petersburg, IN 47567, or call 812-354-6025. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MyCase is not a certified record.
Pike County Federal Case Lookup
Federal cases do not live in the Pike County state system. Pike County sits inside the Evansville Division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. A federal civil, criminal, or bankruptcy docket is held there rather than by Pike Circuit Court. Changing filters in MyCase will not surface it. The official federal case-search and document system is PACER. The Southern District of Indiana site names the court and its divisions.

Use the district court's site for division contacts and federal instructions. It does not replace the Pike County state docket. The district's CM/ECF court information page describes its electronic filing environment.

CM/ECF is the court's own filing system, yet public federal documents usually still route through PACER. Appeals from the district go to the Seventh Circuit. Bankruptcy cases belong to the Southern District of Indiana bankruptcy court.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Indiana's court-record rules presume that public court records are open, but public does not always mean online. Some records never reach the screen. Sealed cases, records excluded by statute or rule, some juvenile and mental-health material, granted expungements, and court-ordered confidential records may not show up like ordinary MyCase results. Protection-order cases sit in a separate state search because identifying data is restricted. Access to Court Records Rule 5 spells out the exclusion categories.
A missing result is not permission for a workaround. First confirm the case number and the court. Then ask the Clerk. The item may be older, not indexed, confidential, sealed, expunged, or held by the court reporter.
Excluded-record requests follow Rule 9. The verified request process asks the court with jurisdiction to weigh the stated grounds. It is not a routine Clerk search form, and access is not automatic.
Under the rules, parties and attorneys can reach more than the general public can. The official party-access instructions cover access codes, verification, and linking periods. Even so, treat public search results with care, since a name match can pull up the wrong case.
Pike County Missing Case Steps
If a Pike County case does not appear, start by writing down what you already know. Note the name spelling, the approximate year, the matter type, any possible citation or legacy number, and each filter you used. Search the exact case number if you have it. Then try the proper category together with the Pike County court filter. For an older matter, ask whether the file predates Pike's Odyssey go-live on February 19, 2019.
The Clerk can tell you several things. The official file may be paper. A public image may simply have not been indexed, or the request may belong with the court reporter. Visit or mail the Clerk to inspect records or get copies. Include the case number, caption, approximate filing year, record type, and how you want delivery. The Clerk offers no Pike-specific online records-request form or public records email.
One more thing about dockets. A docket event can exist without a downloadable document. That is not proof anything was lost. The document may never have had a public image, or it may be view-only or excluded from public view. Once you have the right case, the Pike County Court Dates page explains how to check an active hearing.
Note: Even when MyCase displays financial data, the Clerk's current ledger controls the case balance.
